Last Day in Budapest—-both sides

I haven’t gone through this yet, but Buda, Pest, and Obuda used to be three distinct parts of the city. The city is split by the Danube with Buda on the west side, Pest on the east side, and Obuda to the north of Buda. We stayed on the Pest side but Jessica and I spent the last day exploring Castle Hill on the Buda side.

Kaitlin needed to catch a flight later that afternoon back to Copenhagen but she hung out with us a bit before. We walked along Restaurant Row where I saw these fantastic bushes spelling out Budapest. Of course, I needed a picture. We asked someone to take a pic of the three of us but that’s on Kaitlin’s camera so I can’t share it yet. As we walked along we came upon this statue of a soviet soldier with a huge beer belly. Kaitlin and Jessica shared with me the story of this statue. Apparently, women get pregnant when they rub his belly and men is said to o women who want to get pregnant if they rub his huge belly, but if you are a guy then rubbing the belly brings good luck. None of us got close to his belly (my camera just has a great zoom).

After a quick photo session of the three of us, we said our goodbyes until being reunited in Copenhagen.

Jessica had already visited Castle Hill so she served as a personal guide for me and I provided other random history facts from the Budapest Rick Steves book. We ate lunch on Castle Hill and on our descent I filled up my water bottle. I don’t remember if I mentioned this but in Paris they had Wallace fountains (another history lesson why if you want to hear it later…) all over the city with fresh drinking water constantly flowing for people to use.

Well, this fountain was Buda’s version.

later that day we boarded our train to Wien (Vienna)!
