Budapest Ruin Bar-Szimpla
Monday night in Budapest was rough. We are all so tired after doing so much. (Everything was totally worth it and I know that I’ll definitely be back to Budapest in the future.) Kaitlin was officially sick and my head had been throbbing for awhile now. We still hadn’t made it to a ruin bar yet but it had to get done.
I read an article in the Chicago Tribune Sunday Travel section (yeah, Kat, I don’t think you ever noticed that I would pull that part out every now and then…) about the new ruin bar trend in Budapest which is what prompted me to suggest to Kaitlin and Jessica that we go there instead of London. Thus, we HAD to drink inside one of these bars since it was the impetus for our trip.
Kaitlin stayed home because she is responsible, but by 11:30pm Jessica and I had arrived at Szimpla, the very first ruin bar and also super duper close to our apartment rental. I took a tylenol before leaving the apt and ordered a coffee elongated as my first drink to wake me up and get me excited. We drank our first “drinks” in the first big area but for our second drink we moved to some lounge chairs in the above pictured room. Jessica and I kinda switched orders for our second drink. I got a beer instead of wine and Jessica followed her wine with coffee of some sort.
Switching rooms really made the difference to me. I just leaned back in the chair, sipped some great Hungarian beer, and talked to Jessica for another hour or two. I started the evening really trying to enjoy myself and I went home so happy that we went out for some drinks and great conversation.
