about Monday, September 19th
okay, I am going to try and catch up with this thing. Its a lot of work. I think I may switch my mode of updates to something even easier….
I was sad to leave Paris and Judith’s family but I was really looking forward to seeing Kaitlin for the first time in over a year and well, 5 months not seeing Jessica was a little rough too. Transit to Orly and to Budapest went smoothly, but it took me a while to get my money situated and to trust myself enough that yes, I had found the correct bus. Basically, my troubles didn’t quite end there and I may have scared Jessica and Kaitlin because I arrived an hour later than they expected.
We spent the evening catching up and strolling around our apartment’s neighborhood. My first impressions of the place is that it is much quieter than Paris with a much more urban feel and the people have this lovely tan skin and bright eyes. Just like in Paris, the people seem above average in attractiveness. The US needs to step up its genome game—-and eat a lot less junk food.
Since I arrived later than Kaitlin and Jessica they were great guides. My old roommate, Andrea, gave me a Budapest Rick Steves book and it proved so helpful because I don’t just like seeing monuments and pretty buildings. I want to know why it is there and why it is significant. Using the book’s tours I found the Parisi udvar gallery, a park behind Karoly mansion and this serbian orthodox church. If I didn’t have the book we would have missed these spots which makes me super grateful to Andrea. Great gift.
We bought souvenirs and langos at the Great Market Hall. Langos is fried bread covered usually with a cream cheese/ sour cream mixture topped with shredded cheese. Jessica and I got one with only mushroom, tomatoes, and shredded cheese. It was really good but what fried food isn’t good, right?
The downside of waiting so long is that I’ve probs forgotten stuff. I suppose I could check my travel journal (I’ve grown to really like writing in it btw.) but perhaps you’ve picked up on my laziness trend.
next post will be about the ruin bar of Monday night
(I took a picture of the text by exit of church grounds for my Serbian/Montenegro friend back in Chicago. Hopefully you can read it and when I stop by in Chicago again I can show you the other pics I took of the place.)
